INFO:
Sex is not a taboo word. Having developmentally appropriate conversations about sex is extremely healthy in order to promote safe choices. Many parents believe talking about sex (or safe sex down the line) will lead to more of a desire to have sex, but in actuality the lack of discussions around sex and safety can lead to unhealthy practices or a lack of body autonomy in intimacy. I invited Mary Flo Ridley and Megan Michelson from @birds__bees who are helping parents stop feeling nervous about the talk around sex. We discuss how age-appropriate discussions are better than having a single, potentially overwhelming conversation and how open and continuous dialogue about sex and body autonomy helps normalize these topics.
